Please refer to the Student Handbook for appropriate free dress guidelines.
Reconciliation is Coming!
It is almost here. I wanted to give you some information about the special day. We will be receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation next Friday, Feb. 19, 2010. The service will be after Friday Mass at approximately 9:30am. You are invited to join us and are welcome to receive the sacrament after the students receive on Friday (time permitting). This is a perfect opportunity to share this sacrament with your child.
We are allowing the students that are receiving the sacrament to dress up for the day. This means that they are not required to wear their uniform if they choose to dress up. This is a special day and the children deserve to express that with their clothes. Please keep in mind that they will be in these clothes for the entire school day. This includes outside recesses. Dressing up is optional. If your child does not dress up they will need to be in uniform. Dressing up would include the following:
Boys - dress pants and nice shirt, tie optional.
Girls – dress, skirt or nice pants, and nice shirt
All outfits must comply with school free dress guidelines. This means that clothes must be appropriate for school. No mid-drifts or straps less than 3 adult fingers wide. No t-shirts or jeans are acceptable. If you have any questions please let me know.
Receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Here is the scrip for receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation. Please practice this with your child. We will also be working on it in class but the more practice they have the more comfortable they will be.
Child enters the confessional and either kneels or sits and waits for Father to open the window.
Child: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Bless me, Father for I have sinned. This is my first confession. (Then the child will tell Father all of their sins. When they are finished they must say )“For these and all my sins I don’t remember, I ask pardon.”
Father Paul: (He will advise them on how to do better and then say) I absolve you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Child will make the sign of the cross as he says this.) Go in peace.
Child: Thank you.
The child will then leave the confessional and you will take them to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel to say their penance. Afterwards they will go back to the classroom.
Hello Second Grade Parents,
Due to the Haiti benefit concert, Mrs. West-Bruna and I have decided to postpone the classroom Valentine party until Tuesday February 16th from 1:30 to 2:30, so hold on to those Valentine’s Day cards. We will still need all you wonderful volunteers that signed up to help, but understand if the date change causes a problem and you are unable to help. Please let me know as soon as possible. Mrs. West-Bruna would also like to remind you that if your child has Valentine’s to share, they need to have one for each child in the class. There are 20 students in our class. I have the following personnel scheduled to assist Matt Zubia with the burritos on Thursday:
10:00-11:00 – John Johnson
10:30-12:00 – Jennifer Johnson & Tim Connell
12:00-1:30 – Delores Byrne
Thank you all for the wonderful support you give to the children and the class!
