Principal’s Notes — 2/8/10

• Here is a summary of our student-sponsored concert to benefit Haiti. You can come support the school’s efforts to bring comfort to the sick and injured in Haiti as you enjoy the concert and then get an early start to your long weekend.
o The concert will start this Thursday at 11:00 AM. Donations will be accepted at the door.
o A silent auction of student artwork, ceramics and other items will be available for adults.
o Burritos ordered for Hot Lunch will be packed “to go” for students to take home.
o Dismissal will be at noon this Thursday (to encourage attendance at the concert by parents & guardians!).
o EDP will be available at no charge if your child needs care from noon until 2:40 PM this Thursday. Let us know by this Wednesday if you need to use EDP from noon to 2:40 PM this Thursday.

• Reminder—There is no school on Friday, February 12, and Monday, February 15, because of the Presidents Holiday weekend.

• As you know, the Parish Fish Frys are every Friday during Lent (except not on Good Friday). They are very fun evenings eagerly anticipated by both parishioners and members of the Ridgecrest community. Each class has been assigned particular dates to host these dinners, and teachers will be counting on you to sign up to help. Here is a heads-up for the Fish Fry dates that your class is assigned: Kindergarten, 3rd Grade & 6th Grade have March 12 and March 26. 1st Grade, 4th Grade & 7th Grade have February 26 and March 19. 2nd Grade, 5th Grade & 8th Grade have February 19 and March 5. The sign-up sheets are now ready in the School Office for you to choose your times and duties. Please only fill in spots that are blank. (The first people to sign up get their first choice, of course.) Thank you so much for all that you do to help Saint Ann School. As you know, it is your efforts in fundraisers such as these that make it possible for us to keep tuition costs as low as possible. Safe Environment Training is not necessary to volunteer. Earn parent hours!

• We need brown paper grocery bags for the Fish Frys. Please send in any extras that you may have. Thanks!

• Please turn in your Box Tops for Education by Feb. 10 (this Wednesday) so we can meet the submission deadline.

• Middle School basketball teams play this week. Come cheer them on! See the schedule below.

• The PTG meeting has been cancelled because of a scheduling conflict for our PTG president. We will have a report at our next meeting of profit earned for the school so far this year.

• Most parents at times wonder about how to handle issues concerning their children. I want you to know about an important resource that we have in the School Office. The program “Common Sense Parenting” published by Boys Town Press gives parents suggestions on how to deal with topics such as teaching self-control, staying calm, having clear expectations, and the media. The book (in hardcover and audiobook) is available in the School Office for you to check out. We also have videos on the following topics: preventing and correcting misbehavior, handling emotionally intense situations, helping children succeed in school, parents as teachers, and encouraging positive behavior. Please take advantage of these resources to help you in your continuing effort to raise responsible children.

• Please check your child’s class newsletter to see if he/she qualified for the up-coming Free Dress day.

• Reminder: Tuition & EDP Contract Payments need to be paid or mailed by Feb 10.
