Principal’s Notes — 2/1/10

 Catholic Schools Week began on Sunday and continues through Saturday. The theme this year is “Catholic School: Dividends for Life.” Last week you received a copy of the schedule of events but here are a few reminders:

 Don’t forget the optional family art project and reflection/poetry project, which are both due on Wednesday. These wonderfully creative projects will be on display in the School Office all week.

 Our students did a fabulous job as greeters, readers, musicians, servers, and gift/banner bearers at this weekend’s Masses. You were excellent representatives of our school! Thank you, students, and thank you to your parents who helped you practice and made sure you would be there on time.

 I also want to thank the Blubaugh family, the O’Neil family and all the parent helpers who set up and staffed the information booth by the church handing out fliers and balloons and speaking with parishioners. This was a nice way to draw attention to Catholic Schools Week and our school.

 Tuesday is Crazy Hair Day. Students may wear hair accessories or create interesting hairdos. Any hair color changes must wash out by the next day, of course. Wednesday is Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear as much red as possible with their uniform pants, shorts/skorts, or skirts. Thursday is Crazy Hat Day. This is when student creativity is at its height!

 Thursday is also our Open House beginning at 6:30 PM in the Parish Center. Last week we gave you a flier that we hope you either posted or gave to someone who might consider Saint Ann School for their child(ren). If you could use more, we can give you as many fliers as you need. We are working to increase our enrollment (to help keep costs down!), and this is an excellent opportunity to let the public experience what Saint Ann School has to offer. Don’t forget . . . for every family that attends Saint Ann School based on your referral, you will earn a $100 H.E.A.R.T. card.

 Used uniforms will not be on sale at the Open House this year. You may contact Jenny Hunsaker at 301-2828 if you are in need of a gently-used uniform.

 We encourage students to bring donations all week for the Haitian earthquake victims.

 Friday is Teacher, Staff and Volunteer Appreciation Day. Don’t forget to let our staff know how much you appreciate all they do to educate and care for your children. To recognize our wonderful family volunteers, the teachers and I are making desserts for you — which will be available after the Spaghetti Lunch on Friday.

 The Car Raffle on Saturday was the result of the efforts of many individuals who have been working for months. Thank you to all who helped gather/organize prizes, decorate, clean up, sell tickets, publicize, etc. Thanks to the student helpers who served and helped with the drawing. Thanks especially go to the organizers: Larry and Elaine Riendeau and Dan and Joyce Ommen. As many of you know, Larry was unable to attend because his father passed away unexpectedly a few days before the Car Raffle. Because of their hard work prior to the event, however, the evening went off without a hitch.

 Thank you to all of you who attended the Science Fair last Tuesday. Here’s a list of our winners and those receiving Honorable Mention:
4th Grade Winners: 1st Place Katherine H., 2nd Place Paul S., 3rd Place Ryan A., Honorable Mention Seth G. 5th Grade Winners: 1st Place Emma S., 2nd Place Anthony L., 3rd Place Amanda C., Honorable Mention Caitlyn M. & Marissa D. 6th Grade Winners: 1st Place Daniel H., 2nd Place Jacob T., 3rd Place (Tie) Trey S. & Adison B. 7th Grade Winners: 1st Place Allie S., 2nd Place Bridget I., 3rd Place Desteny S., Honorable Mention Jonathan H. 8th Grade Winners: 1st Place Leah O., 2nd Place Brooke N., 3rd Place Karinna G.

 As I mentioned last week, a week from Thursday, February 11, the students are sponsoring a concert to benefit Haiti. Donations will be welcome. To encourage attendance, we will dismiss students at noon. You can come enjoy the concert and then get an early start to your long weekend. Let us know by February 10 if you need to use EDP at no charge for your child from noon to 2:40 PM regular dismissal time.
