Dear Parents,

Thank you for all of your responses about the service projects. We will continue to work on the prayer blankets this week. We have received generous donations of material for this project. Each quilt is made with approximately two yards of fabric. These prayer blankets are then given to someone experiencing a sickness or loss. We will make prayer blankets for not only members of our church, but also our community. Thank you to Mrs. Bigalk, Mrs. Bussell, Mrs. Ostrom, Mrs. Pillers, and Mrs. Rogers for coming in on Friday to work with the children. They had a ball! We will also keep collecting food for St. Vincent de Paul. We have 27 cans so far.

This week the children are practicing the act of contrition prayer to present to the class. I will give them one point for being loud, one point for being clear, and one point for memorization.

Since this week is Vocations Week, we will invite Fr. Paul to our classroom to speak to us about vocations. We will ask questions about his vocation and the choice he made to serve God.

We are going to begin to take timed multiplication tests later this week. The children will need to work on developing their memorization skills. This is an example of one of our Schoolwide Learning Expectations of becoming a life-long learner. Students will develop a strategy that will help him or her memorize the multiplication facts.

God bless,

Susan McDonald

Third Grade Goals This Week

Religion: We will study vocations. We will study chapter 15 “We Celebrate God’s Healing Love.” Check out the website www.faithfirst.com weekly for activities for your child.
Reading: We will read “Roxaboxen” from our reading book this week. In “Reader’s Workshop” we will study point of view and mood. We get started reading our latest chapter book, Little House in the Big Woods.
Language: We will continue to work on our report on horses. We will take notes and write them in our report notebook. We will use our notes to write complete sentences. We will revise, edit and write a final draft this week. Our dictation sentence is: I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.” Luke 15:18. Our vocabulary words are: ford, traced, mayor, decorated, blossomed and bordering.
Spelling Words: Students will have a review spelling test this week. The words have vowel sound combinations that we have studied for the last 5 weeks. The spelling words are: made, note, sail, boat, use, soon, bright, pool, open, each, became, like, reach, stone and jewels.
Math: We will continue to study what it means to multiply in chapter 5. We will continue reviewing zero, one, two, three, five, six and ten facts. We will also finish chapter 4 on measurement.
Social Studies: We will continue to study laws, rules and the Constitution. Since we did not complete the study last week, we will survey and study the results from parents and/or grandparents.
Science: We will continue to study matter this week. Students may bring in a small collection of items to classify according to their properties.
Handwriting: All students are practicing writing the letters in cursive using correct form and posture.
P.E.: We will continue basketball.

Confiteor (I Confess)

I confess to almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have sinned through my own fault
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done,
and in what I have failed to do;
and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin,
all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
