• Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week. These are minimum days with 11:30 AM dismissal for students. The following are some suggestions for getting the most out of the parent/teacher conference from Helping Your Child Succeed in Elementary School by The MASTER Teacher®:
 Be there, and be on time. The conference is one of the few occasions during the school year when you get to meet face to face with the teacher and chart your child’s success. This may be one of the most important things you do for your child this school year.
 Ask for contact information. The parent conference shouldn’t be the only time during the year that you talk to your child’s teacher. Teachers welcome parent involvement. (Our school’s Mission Statement and Philosophy both refer to the importance of parents and families in the education of the students.) Before the conference is over, discuss with the teacher the best way to contact her to keep in touch with her regarding your child’s progress. And remember, you don’t have to wait for a problem to arise to discuss your child’s education.
 As you know, the Extended Day Program is open to families who need to make special arrangements for their child(ren) during the four days of Parent–Teacher Conferences. The cost for non-contracted families is $7.50/day (from 11:30 am to 2:40 pm). Please let us know in advance if you’re planning to use the EDP during conferences.

• This week Saint Ann School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. We ask for your support as we teach the students to make healthy choices, particularly the rejection of all illegal drugs. Learning to make decisions based on Catholic values and accepting responsibility for one’s actions are two important points in our Schoolwide Learning Expectations. Today students will have a kick-off rally to begin the week. On Tuesday, classes will decorate their classroom door to reflect the theme “Dream, Believe, Achieve, Succeed.” On Wednesday, students may wear as much red as possible with their uniform bottoms. Thursday there will be a Chalk - a- thon in the Quad (during break) and students may wear Scary Hat/Socks to school that day. On Friday, Boo Grams will be delivered and the door decorating winners will be announced.

• Please join us tonight for the School Advisory Council meeting at 7:00 PM in the school library. We will discuss the progress made in meeting the school’s goals arising from the accreditation self-study.

• As we do each year, Saint Ann School will have a pumpkin carving contest. Students should bring their carved and/or decorated pumpkins to school on Friday, October 30. Pumpkins will sit on the benches in the quad for viewing all day.

• Look in this Monday Envelope for information regarding a H.E.A.R.T. card contest beginning soon (see enclosed flyer). All this takes is prior planning and a little recruitment, and you might earn double your scrip profit! Money raised benefits your child by helping us provide a quality education!

• We invite you to join us for All Souls Mass on Monday, November 2, at 8:15 AM.

• Advent Candles & Wreaths are being sold to raise money for our 8th Grade Graduation Trip. If you would like to purchase any of these items, see the enclosed order form. Samples may be viewed in the School Office.

• Mark your calendar for raising money for a new air conditioning system in the church! The K of C will be hosting a Tri-Tip Dinner on Saturday, November 7, after the 5:30 PM Mass. More details later.

PTG News:
• Enclosed is a yellow sign-up sheet for volunteering with our annual Holiday Bazaar. See Mrs. Hastings’ note in the box below. Earn lots of Parent Hours!
• Mrs. Blubaugh would like any at-home craft projects returned by November 3. Thank you for your help!

Note from Kelly Hastings: The Holiday Bazaar is upon us and I am looking for volunteers to work in the kitchen (yum), sit at the raffle table, the See’s candy table, the bake sale table and the craft table. This year, all these tables will be side-by-side so I will only need one person at each table for each 2-hour shift for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After the bazaar, I will also need parents to help clean up. This is an excellent way to earn Parent Participation hours. Please fill in the schedule (on the yellow paper in your Monday Envelope) with your name and phone number and return it as soon as possible. I will be contacting you to confirm your volunteer shift.
