Principal’s Notes — 3/31/08

• I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter break. It’s hard to believe we’re in the last quarter of the school year, and experience has taught me that this quarter will seem to fly by. I encourage all of you to keep checking in with your children to hear what they are studying at school. Perhaps your interest and encouragement can help stave off the spring fever that is all too common when the weather turns nice.

• Tomorrow we will have a school assembly of The NED Show. This program, which promotes positive character development, was offered free of charge to Saint Ann School. Always the person to distrust the word “free,” I asked how the producers could afford to do this. They explained that the presenters use yoyo’s to engage the students in the program. When they’re done, they leave a box of yoyo’s which are offered for sale. The school then sends them any money from the sale of the yoyo’s and the unsold items. We hope this assembly will be a fun and educational experience for our children.

• Good luck to our school’s first place Science Fair winners who will be participating in the Regional Science Fair in Bakersfield this Wednesday. Our students are: 4th Grade, Daniel H; 5th Grade, Allie S; 6th Grade, Leah O; 7th Grade, Becca M; and 8th Grade, Amanda S.

• We are very grateful to our High School Youth Ministry team who shared with us the Living Stations during Holy Week. Our students enjoyed the dramatic, visual interpretation of this devotion. We hope to do this again next year!

• Thank you to everyone who helped with the Parish Fish Frys—Mr. and Mrs. Zurn, Mrs. Schatz, the amazing kitchen crews, teachers, staff, parents and students. These dinners raised over $9,000 for the school. Great work, everyone!

• There will be a Kindergarten Information Night this Wednesday, April 2, from 6:30 PM 7:30 PM in the Kindergarten Room. Please encourage your acquaintances with children entering kindergarten next year to attend.

• Next Thursday, April 10, at 6:30 PM, there will be a meeting for parents of all 4th/5th Grade students and anyone else interested in learning about the Middle School program here at Saint Ann School. You will learn about the curriculum and how to help your child make the transition to Middle School. You’ll meet the teachers and be able to ask questions. Please encourage any of your acquaintances with Middle School age children to come learn about our program. Middle School is a critical developmental age for young people, and Saint Ann School offers a uniquely caring and supportive environment for students during these exciting years of growth, change and challenge!

• 5th Grade Basketball is in action! Free admission at the Kerr-McGee gym! Please come cheer!
April 1 (Tues), Boys @ 6:00 PM vs Pierce

• Please join us this week for the meetings of the Advisory Council (tonight, 7 PM) and the Parent-Teacher Guild (Thurs., 7 PM). At the Advisory Council, we will discuss tuition, fees and policies for next year. We will also discuss optional all-day Kindergarten. The PTG was moved up a week to avoid conflict with the Middle School Information Night on April 10. They will discuss openings for officers for next year, Casino Night and the Holiday Bazaar. Both meetings are in the School Library.

• Reminder—Please turn in Box Tops for Education by this Friday.

• Look for information regarding Registration for the 2008-2009 school year in next week’s Monday Envelope.
