Principal’s Notes — 10/16/06
· The teachers and I found the Diocesan Teachers’ Convention to be a worthwhile experience. One of our presenters was Fr. Richard Fragomeni, a well-known figure to those who attend the LA Religious Education Congress. He spoke to us on our role as Catholic educators in helping our students imagine, and thus create, the kingdom of God here on earth.
· Reminder—Next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Oct. 25-27) are parent/teacher conferences. These are minimum days with 11:30 AM dismissal for students.
· If you are not already on a contract and you plan on your child(ren) attending the Extended Day Program next week during parent/teacher conference, please call the School Office to let us know.
· I would like to remind you that siblings and students should not attend parent/teacher conferences in order for you and the teacher to give full attention to discussing the educational needs of your child.
· Thank you to Mrs. Debbie Arlow for volunteering to be our Head Roomparent. Other Roomparents can expect to hear from Mrs. Arlow soon regarding a new component of the Holiday Bazaar – classsponsored tabletop Christmas trees! These trees will be created for each class and raffled off at the Bazaar.

· As we do each year, Saint Ann School will have a pumpkin carving contest. Students should bring their carved and/or decorated pumpkins to school on Tuesday, October 31. Pumpkins will sit on the benches in the quad for viewing all day.
· If you are planning to have your child make up or retake the school portrait on Thursday, October 26, you will need a new order form. You may pick up a form in the School Office prior to that day, or you may call to ask Miss Rossi to send a form home with your child.
· Please join us at the Grotto at 7:30 AM on Wednesday mornings in October as we say a decade of the rosary. This week students are saying a decade each day remembering the Sorrowful Mysteries.
· A reminder for those of you who need the Safe Environment initial training or re-training. You may complete the training on-line following either of these links: www.cattacenter.org (choose the link “Free mandated child abuse reporter training”) or www.sonoma.edu/cihs/mr (choose “General training”). You will be able to print a certificate verifying completion which you should bring in to the School Office to provide as proof of taking the training.
· I am looking into a new fundraising opportunity that sounds interesting. DIRECTV has a program in which they will pay back to registered schools $100 for each new order or renewed order of DIRECTV. If you’re considering ordering this service for your household, please let me know. We could raise money for the school with little or no real effort on our part.
PTG News:
· Please look for Holiday Bazaar news in this Monday Envelope. To cut advertising costs and increase the profit from the Bazaar, we are asking families to help us by posting flyers around town. These will be included in an upcoming Monday Envelope. It is important that you have permission to post the flyers in each location you choose and that you remove the flyers after the Holiday Bazaar is over. If you can take one to your place of work, that will also help.
· This year’s holiday pies will only be available for sale by pre-ordering. The deadline for ordering pies is this Thursday, October 19. Order forms were sent home in last week’s Monday Envelope. There are order forms in the School Office if you need more. There is some concern that there will not be enough freezer space in the Parish Center for storing the pies. We may ask you to pick up your pies earlier so that you can keep them frozen at home. More on this later when we know how many pies have been ordered.
