On every book report, students must have:
- their name
- student number,
- the date
- the author of the book
- the title of the book
- the copyright date
- and the book’s lexile number.
You may choose to do the book
reports (marked below with an *) in any order.
If you are turning in a rough draft, please indicate so by writing
“Rough Draft” at the top of your report. Be sure to check for the above
requirements as well as spelling, grammar, punctuation, neatness, etc
before turning in your final copy. Final copies, if I have seen the
rough draft, may be typed. Otherwise, final copies need to be in cursive
and in pen or pencil. Your grade will be based on the academic criteria
above, as well as how well you followed instructions and overall neatness.
Don’t forget that you need to take (2) reading quizzes (a combination of
Reading Counts in the classroom or Bookadventure.com at home) from two
of the three books you will read this quarter. If you score low on any
of the reading quizzes, you may take more than the required two quizzes
to improve your grade.
* Write a diary entry that one of the book’s main characters might have
kept either before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that
the character’s thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary.
Don’t forget to “date” the diary entry and begin with a greeting, such
as ‘Dear Diary’. This should be about one page in length.
* Design a book jacket for the book you have read. See me for an example
of a book jacket before you begin if you aren’t sure how to start. The
cover should include a picture with the title and author’s name, and the
inside should tell a brief summary of the book (about 10 sentences).
Paper for this report should be at least 8 ½ x 11 or larger.
* Write a friendly letter to one of the characters in the book you’ve
read. Ask them questions, give them advice on something that happened in
the book, provide compliments, and anything else you come up with.
Organize your writing into at least three full paragraphs. You can
reference how to write a friendly letter by reviewing p. 144-146 in your
Writer’s Express Handbook. Normal notebook paper is acceptable for this
report.
