Computer Class
The students in second through eighth grades have computer class for one hour weekly. The second grade students are divided into two groups with each group having thirty minute class periods weekly. They use the KidPix software program to reinforce the language arts instruction they receive in the their classroom. They become familiar with the placement of the letters, numbers, punctuation marks, spacebar, shift and enter/return keys on the keyboard. They learn to use the drawing tools on the KidPix program. The third grade Students use the ClarisWorks program. The students become familiar with the software program. They use the word processing and the drawing program. They begin keyboarding at the start of the calendar year. fourth grade students use the the ClarisWorks program and learn to format their work in preparation to key their mission report in the computer lab. They review their keyboarding technique and continue to edit their lessons. The fifth grade students use ClarisWorks to continue to progress in their document formatting skills. They learn the use of tabs. They learn to use PowerPoint and develop presentations. The sixth grade students use both ClarisWorks and MS Word to key their lessons. They have a computer literacy session. They learn to use both the database in the ClarisWorks program and spreadsheet in the ClarisWorks and MS Excel programs. The seventh grade students use MS Word and have a year of keyboarding using a Keyboarding text. They learn to key personal and business letters, memos and research papers. The eighth grade students learn HTML programming. The students in the various grades do service projects throughout the year. The fourth grade does monthly calendars for the school families. The fifth grade puts out a Christmas and Easter Newsletter. The middle school writes and illustrates poems that are placed in a in a Christmas and Lenten Reflection Booklets that are given to those who are not able to leave home. They also design letterheads and thank you letters to those who have helped Saint Ann School during the year.
