Owens Lake Air

For my eighth grade research project, which I decided to do instead of a science fair project, I collected and analyzed data on the Owens Dry Lake Bed. My hypothesis was that the dust that is being picked up and blown to different places, is harmful. When we breathe in the harmful dust, which is PM10 dust that contains large amounts of areosol, also known as Keeler Fog, we are damaging our lungs. This Keeler Fog can cause:
  1. Lung cancer
  2. Asthma
  3. Emphysema
  4. Lung disease
The Owens Dry Lake Bed wasn't always dry. In 1924, the lake was declared a dry lake bed. The things that made the lake dry are... When the lake was wet, it supported lots of wildlife. I think that by draining the Owens Lake, we hurt the wildlife living there, and we hurt ourselves. We now breathe in the dust that is filled with salt, and it hurts our lungs and respiratory systems.
I believe that the Owens Lake should have stayed a beautiful lake, helping make Earth a nice place to live. Planet Earth
