8th Grade Cultural Immersion Project on Germany
For our Cultural Immersion project, our class worked as a group and decided on a culture of people to find information on them and live like them for a day. We also had to teach the other students about the culture we chose. We taught the students the following- We taught about the daily life of a German immigrant in America between the 1820s and 1860s.
- We told them about how their culture and religion inspired many Americans.
- We told them that many famous and important inventions that are used today developed from Germans.
- We showed them a slideshow of what life was like for the Germans on the ship to America.
We also did a skit for the other students that was kind of like the magic school bus. The skit was made funny to keep the kids entertained while they learned. During the progam we gave them activiities to help them remember what they had learned. We gave them these activities in this order.- A quiz on various German sayings.
- A quiz on basic German facts we taught them.
- We had them make a quilt square with paper strips.
- We had them at the end of the day write a letter pretending they were immigrants writing to their families from America.
Also at one point during the program we took a break and served them some German food. YUM! Overall, we hoped that everyone learned a lot about Germany and learned to respect other cultures.
