Cryptozoology: Hidden Animals Exposed

There are many mysteries in this world that puzzle scientists. One of these mysteries are strange animal sightings. Many include:

All these animals are under the category of the science "cryptozoology".
What is cryptozoology? Cryptozoology is made up of three Greek words; crypto, zoon, and logias, which literally means "hidden animal study." The use of the word "cryptozoology" wasn't known until a man named Ivan Sanderson, also known as "Father of Cryptozoology" used it in his book "Search for Unknown Animals." This type of science consists of the use of local myths, legends, and also the use of other sciences, such as anthropology and zoology.

Although this science is ridiculed often, cryptozoology has helped discover many animals that few people have ever heard of. The most famous animals that were discovered were:

  1. American Tapir (1862)
  2. Giant Squid (1870s)
  3. Mountain Gorilla (1890s)
  4. Okapi (1902)
  5. Coelacanth (1932)
The most well known area in the world for discovering new species of aniamal is the Va Quang reserve in Vietnam or the "Lost World" of Vietnam. The types of animals that were discovered there were the Saola, a type of antelope with long slender horns, a turtle with a yellow shell, and many different kinds of fish and reptiles. Despite these incredible discoveries, there are still many animal mysteries that still plague the entire globe. Hopefully these strange creatures will finally be confirmed as living creatures or hoaxes in the distant future by cryptozoology.
