Weekly Notes from the Principal's Desk. . .
November 15, 2004
- I hope you all had a restful Veterans' Day holiday weekend. It is important for us to remember that the mere fact that we can take time to relax from our jobs with friends and family is due in no small part to the sacrifices of the members of the Armed Forces. These men and women have worked faithfully to preserve the many freedoms we enjoy. All our students recently signed and wrote messages in Christmas cards that will be forwarded, along with a tiny bit of our native soil, to the troops overseas.
- All students should have picked up Innisbrook orders last week. This fundraiser earned over $5,000 for our school! Thank you to all who participated.
- The Holiday Bazaar is this weekend, and I'm pleased to report that most of the shifts have been filled with willing volunteers. Mrs. Metcalf reports that the following two positions are still open: (1) Kitchen - Friday 2:00-4:30 PM, (2) Crafts - Saturday 4:30-7:00 PM. We hope that high school students needing service hours for Confirmation will be willing to help us with general clean-up.
As usual, a highlight of the Bazaar is the delicious food for sale. Homemade pies, pumpkin rolls, and other goodies are available for you to take home. You can also enjoy a taco salad or beef/bean burritos to eat on-site both Friday and Saturday. An additional hot lunch order form is included in the Monday Envelope for students (and their parents) who would like to enjoy the food on Friday. Come join your child for lunch and go shopping in the Parish Center when you're done! I'm sorry to say that this year we will not be able to offer cinnamon rolls on Sunday unless someone steps forward to take on this task. Parishioners really look forward to buying hot cinnamon rolls after Mass so it would be a shame to not have them available.
- As I mentioned last week, I'm happy to report that Chess Club is going to meet for the first time this fall on Friday, November 19. Instead of meeting after school, students will meet in the multi-purpose room of the Parish Center right after they finish eating their lunches. Thank you, Jim McDonald, for making this happen.
- We have received the ITBS results for students in Grades 2-8 who took the test back in October. The report to parents will be in this week's Monday Envelope. While the results are important information for teachers and parents, they are only one form of assessment used to evaluate your child's learning. I encourage you to ask your child's teacher if you would like help interpreting what the results mean for your child.
