Language Arts-June Scholastic Book Orders are due Thurs., May 19th.
In Literature, students are reading two ancient Greek Myths to understand and appreciate the values and customs of ancient Greece. The Sp./Voc. list this week is based on these myths and the test will be on Fri., May 20th.
Students continue to work on their Poetry Booklets at home as well as in class in order to complete them by the end of the week of May 23rd.
Outside Reading Task: read a book of choice and complete a book report. (Book Report form is in Rm. 6 - ask Mrs. Martin)

Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #8 will be taken on Fri., May 20th. Students will make corrections on Daily Geography for the weeks of Apr. 25th, May 2nd and May 9th in order to be able to use them as reference for Quiz #8. This weeks Daily Geography will also be used.
Chap. 12, students will analyze the effects of the conquering and colonizing strategies of Alexander and identify examples of the influence of ancient Greece on contemporary American culture and western civilization.

Religion-Students continue in Chap. 21 becoming aware of the missionary work of the Church and their responsibilities as missionaries today. The chapter quiz for Chap. 21 will be Wed., May 18th. In beginning Chap. 22, students will become familiar with Isaiah's call, his work, and the Book of Isaiah.

Science- This week, students will begin Chapter 16, Understanding the Weather. This will be our last unit of study for the year. Students will review the water cycle, and then relate it to humidity and precipitation. They will then learn what air masses are and how they affect weather in the United States. Finally, students will lean about sever weather.

Math- Students will be beginning Unit 11, Coordinate Graphing and Rational Numbers this week. They will be learning about graphing in the coordinate plane, equations with tow variables and graphing equations.

PE - Students will be having a short unit on Martial Arts, this week. Mr. Stinger-Smith has agreed to teach students the basics of self-defense.

7th Grade

Language Arts-June Scholastic Book Orders are due Thurs., May 19th.
In Literature, students are reading a myth, a folk tale and a modern retelling of a folk tale to appreciate and understand these forms of story telling. The Sp./Voc. list this week is based on these selections and the test will be Fri., May 20th.
Students continue to work on their Poetry Booklets at home as well as in class in order to complete the booklet by the end of the week of May 23rd.
Outside Reading: Students are completing “Roll of Thunder” Chapters 9 to 12, Summaries, Illustrations and sentences by Wed., May 18th. Students begin “Tuck Everlasting” this week. Students will complete a storyboard by illustrating each chapter of “Tuck”.
The reading of “Tuck Everlasting” and the completion of the storyboard will be completed at home and in class.

Students have completed The Age of Exploration and were tested on Mon., May 16th. In Unit 8 Europe: 1600 - 1789 students will learn different ways in which European nations governed themselves, how these nations expanded their control, and how new ideas led to changes in these governments. Test on “European Rule and Expansion”, Mon., May 23rd.

Religion-Students are finishing their study of sins and virtues. They will take a test on Chapters 14 and 15 on Wednesday. To get an “A” on this test, students will have two choices: 1) to not use notes, or 2) to recognize the sins and virtues in real-life situations. Students will begin studying the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Science- This week, students will begin Chapter 19, Body Organization and Structure. Students will be learning the basic organization of the human body. They will then focus on the skeletal, muscular, vision and integumentary systems. Students will have a lab test over this chapter on Friday.

Math- Students will be working on algebraic functions this week. The focus will be on equations with two variables, graphing linear factions and slop of a line.

PE - Students will be having a short unit on Martial Arts, this week. Mr. Stinger-Smith has agreed to teach students the basics of self-defense.

8th Grade

Language Arts-June Scholastic Book Orders are due Thurs., May 19th.
In Literature, students will read three selections in Unit 6 to understand the history and development of oral tradition in the Americas. Students continue to work on their Poetry Booklets at home as well as in class in order to complete the booklets by the end of the week of May 23rd.
Outside Reading: Students are completing “Across Five Aprils” by Thurs., May 19th. All the summaries and illustrations for the chapters will be completed by this time.

Students will begin this chapter with an explanation of the units used to measure astronomical distances. They will then learn about all of our planets in our solar system. Finally, they will begin learning about naturally occurring satellites- moons.

Math-This week students will be working on ration expressions. They will be simplifying ration expression and finding values that are excluded form the domain of the expression. They will also be multiplying and dividing rations expressions.

PE - Students will be having a short unit on Martial Arts, this week. Mr. Stinger-Smith has agreed to teach students the basics of self-defense.

Health - Since students missed last week's health class, they will be doing stress management this week. Students will be learning about different techniques to control and manage stress.

General Notes:

Middle School Field Trip is scheduled for this Tuesday, May 17th. They will be going to Manzanar Relocation Camp. We will be leaving at 7:30, so your student needs to be on time and will be returning around 3:00. Please make sure your student brings snacks, lunch, water and sunscreen. There are still about 20 seats on the bus, so if we have any parents interested in going we have room.

Athletics Celebration: If your child played basketball or volleyball this year, our Athletics Celebration will be on Tuesday, May 17th at 7:00PM in the Parish Center. Coaches, players and players' families are welcome to join us for this celebration.
