6th Grade

Language Arts-In Literature, two selections will be taken from the Literature book this week: “The Fun They Had” and “The Sand Castle”. Students will read those selections to understand and appreciate a short story. A variety of activities will be used from the Resource Book. Sp./Voc. List this week is based on the above selections. The test will be on Friday, April 15th.

“Where the Red Fern Grows”: Students worked in class as well as at home to complete the readings and notebook requirements for chapters 10-13 by Tues., April 12th. The test (Quiz Time) for chapters 10-13 will be on April 12th. There is a writing activity for chap. 11 that students will complete this week.

Students continue to read “Red Fern”, chapters 14-18 and the vocabulary for section 4 will be on the chalkboard so page numbers for the words can be identified.

Scholastic Book Club orders are due Fri., April 15th.

Social Studies- In chapter 10, The Ancient Israelites students will be tracing more than 2,000 years of the remarkable survival story of the Ancient Israelites.

Religion- In reviewing Sunday's Gospel theme, students will identify the breaking and sharing of bread as a characteristic action of Jesus. In beginning Chapter 17 “God Protects the Israelites through Judges”; focus is on when the Israelites turned from God and were attacked by enemies, God saved them through the Judges.

Science- Students will be finishing chapter 11, with learning about ice and gravity erosion. There will be a written test on Thursday and a lab test of Friday. Their study guide is due on Friday as well.

Math- Students will be working on clusters, graphs, surveys and samples and work problems involving conjunctive and verification.

PE - Students will be working on team sports this week.

7th Grade

Language Arts-In Literature, this weeks selection from “Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun”, will be read to understand and appreciate an excerpt from a biography about a naval officer and his goal. Students will also read in order to enrich reading by visualization and to identify and understand imagery. A variety of activities will be used from the Resource Book in order to enrich these goals. Sp./Voc. List this week is based on this selection.

“Dragonwings” Quiz Time on Chapters 11&12 on Monday, April 11th will conclude the novel.

Scholastic Book Club orders are due Friday, April 15th.

Social Studies- Students conclude Chapter 11 “Europe: Rule, Religion, & Conflict” this week and will take the test home to complete and return Tues., April 12th. In beginning Unit 6, Chapter 12 “The Renaissance, students will first see how life in the Middle Ages began to change causing feudalism to bread down.

Religion-We will return to the textbook after our intensive study of the papacy. We will review the Crusades and discuss the causes of the Protestant Reformation.

Science- Students will be finishing chapter 15, with learning about reptiles. There will be a written test on Thursday and a lab test of Friday. Their study guide is due on Friday as well.

Math- Students will be reviewing Unit 9 on Monday and have their test on Tuesday. They will then begin Unit 10, Using Formulas in Geometry. Students will be working on circumference and area of circles; and complex plane figures.

PE - Students will be working on team sports this week.

8th Grade

Language Arts-In Literature, students will read “Flowers for Algernon” to understand and appreciate a short story about the challenges and injustices faced by a mentally challenged man. They will enrich their reading by using active reading strategies. The Sp./Voc. List is based on this selection and the test will be on Fri., April 15th.

Scholastic Book Club orders are due Fri., April 15th.

Social Studies- Students have begun reading Chap. 10, “The South” to realize that Southerners at this time had a strong sense of regional identity; it is the era before the Civil War.

The test for Chap. 10 will be on Fri., April 15th.

Religion- We will return to the textbook after our intensive study of the papacy. We will review the Crusades and discuss the causes of the Protestant Reformation.

Science- Students will be finishing chapter 15, with learning about energy and rates of chemical reactions. There will be a written test on Thursday and a lab test of Friday. Their study guide is due on Friday as well.

Math-Students will be reviewing Unit 9 on Monday and have their test on Tuesday. They will then begin Unit 10,Quadratic and Exponential Functions. Students will be working on graphing quadric functions.

PE - Students will be working on team sports this week.

Health - Students will be continuing with their Prevention of Intentional and unintentional injuries unit. Officer Miller will be joining our class of Wednesday.

General Notes:

Please Return the Burroughs High School registration packet by tomorrow. The teachers will be reviewing the packet and will call parents if there are any questions.

8th Grade will be hosting the school mass on Friday. Please come and join us if you can.

Our grading program lost a couple files so we are unable to send home progress reports to those parents who have requested them. We are working on the problem and will send them home as soon as possible.
