Language Arts-Students main concentration this week is working on “Where the Red Fern Grows.” To date, students have completed parts I, II and III for Chap. 1-5 and 6-9 of the Notebook Requirements sheet. Part V Test, which is called Quiz Time, Section I: Chapters I-V is now in the notebook for “Red Fern” and the parent signature may be placed on the bottom of this page.
Parts I, II and III of Notebook Requirements for:

  • Chapters 1-5 worth 78 total points
    • I - Chapter Responses = 21 points
    • II - Quotes = 15 points
    • III - Vocabulary = 42 points

  • Chapters 6-9 worth 78 total points
    • I - Chapter Responses = 12 points
    • II - Quotes = 15 points
    • III - Vocabulary = 51 points
Students will complete Quiz Time for Chap. 6-9 by Tues., April 5th. Part IV, Additional assignments as appropriate; is just being introduced this week for Chap. 6-9, due Wed., April 6th.
Students will work in class and at home to complete parts I, II and III of Chapters 10-13 by Tues., April 12th. The test for Chapters 10-13 will be given on Tues., April 12th.
Spelling/Vocabulary this week is taken from “Where the Red Fern Grows,” Section 3. The Spelling/Vocabulary test is Friday, April 8th.

Social Studies- Students continue in Chap. 8 to be able to explain the basic beliefs of Buddhism including the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path and the characteristic features of Hinduism. Students will be able to recognize the difference in the origins of Hinduism and Buddhism. The test for Chapter 8 is scheduled for Friday, April 8th.

Religion-In Chap. 15, students will appreciate qualities of leadership within the church community. They will recognize the purpose and responsibility of authority and consider how they can begin now to acquire the qualities that will enable them to become responsible adult leaders. Quiz # 15 is scheduled for Thurs., April 7th. (Students who need more time may complete it for homework and hand in Fri., April 8th.)

Science- Students are beginning Chapter 11, Agents of Erosion and Deposition. They will be learning about how waves, wind, and ice affect the surface of the Earth. The first section explores how wave action sculpts and builds shorelines. It also focus on the formation and deposition of beaches, sea cliffs, sea stacks, arches and caves. In section two students will discover the effects of wind erosion. They will explore the tree major process of wind erosion: saltation, deflation, and abrasion. Finally, in the third section students will examine how glaciers form and how they shape the Earth's surface.

Math- This week students will finish up Unit 8. There will be a review on Tuesday and test on Wednesday. They will then begin Unit 9, Data, Statistics, and Probability, on Thursday. Students will be leaning about comparing data, clusters, gaps and outliers.

PE - Students will be wrapping up their Soccer Unit. They will have a championship game on Friday.

7th Grade

Language Arts-In Literature, this weeks selection will be read to understand and appreciate a short story about a boy who learns about handling responsibility, to enrich reading by using the reading strategy of predicting, and to identify and understand foreshadowing. A variety of activities will be used from the Resource Book.
Spelling/Vocabulary this week is taken from the above selection and the test will be on Fri., April 8th.
Outside Reading - “Dragonwings” test (Quiz Time) on Tues., April 5th is on Chapters 9&10. Students will complete activities that apply to this section and will hand them in this week. The test (Quiz Time) for Chapters 11&12 will be Mon., April 11th.

Social Studies- Students have completed the first packet on Medieval Times and will be continuing in the second set this week. Medieval Times compliments Chapters 10 and 11 of the test. Due to our minimum day schedule the week of March 21st, Lesson 2 was not covered and will be this week. Lesson 3 for the crusades and the reasons why people became crusaders. Students will be tested on Chap. 11 next week.

Religion-Because of the death of Pope John Paul II, this week we will focus on the papacy. We will learn about how the Pope is chosen and some of the traditions that surround the papacy.

Science- This week Chapter 15, Fishes, Amphibians, and Reptiles, will be started. Students will be introduced to vertebrates and other chordates. They will learn abut the characteristic of vertebrates and the traits that set them apart from other chordates. They will also discover the differences between ectoderms and endoderms. They will then focus on fishes, the first vertebrates. Students will explore the characteristics of fishes, including their swimming ability and their complex senses of vision, smell, and hearing. They will also learn abut the threes classes of fishes. The end of the week will focus on amphibians, which evolved form fishes. They will find out how amphibians breathe, reproduce and develop through the process of metamorphosis. Students will learn the three major groups of amphibians.

Math- Students will be learning about solving equations with rational numbers, solving two-step equations, equations and inequalities. There will be a review on Monday and test on Tuesday, next week.

PE - Students will be wrapping up their Soccer Unit. They will have a championship game on Friday.

8th Grade

Language Arts-In Literature, this week's selection is a drama, “Survival” by Alfred Brenner. Besides reading to understand and appreciate a teleplay, students will identify and understand the role of minor characters and express understanding including an essay, an alternative ending, and a paragraph. Spelling/Vocabulary list this week is based on the above selection. The test will be on Fri., April 8th.

Social Studies- Students continue to build their knowledge of “The North”, Chap. 9, this week. They will be able to describe the advances in industrial production and transportation systems, which helped contribute to the tremendous population growth in cities. Also they will identify the social problems that inspired social reform movements. Chap. 9 test is on Friday, April 8th.

Religion- Because of the death of Pope John Paul II, this week we will focus on the papacy. We will learn about how the Pope is chosen and some of the traditions that surround the papacy.

Science- Students will begin Chapter 15, Chemical Reactions. Students will discuss chemical reactions. They will learn how to write chemical formulas and how to balance chemical equations. They will be learning how the law of conservation of mass is maintained in a balanced chemical equation. Students will also learn how to determine the type of reaction that is represented by a chemical reaction.

Math-This week students will be finishing Chapter 9. They will be learning factoring differences of squares and perfect squares and factoring. There will a review on Thursday and Test on Friday.

PE - Students will be wrapping up their Soccer Unit. They will have a championship game on Friday.

Health - This week will be the beginning of the Prevention of Intentional and Unintentional Injuries Unit. On Wednesday students will be learning the 3 phases of prevention. Next week they will have guest speaker, Officer Miller, of the Ridgecrest Police Department. He will be talking to the students about preventing injuries. Officer Miller will be joining health class for 3 weeks.
