6th Grade
Language Arts-Scholastic February Book Orders due Wed., Feb. 23rd.
In Literature, students will read from “The Story of My Life” to understand and appreciate an autobiography. Also, students will read “High-Tech Helping Hands” to analyze a magazine article and its features. Appropriate resource activities will be completed.
The Spelling/Vocabulary list this week is based on “The Story of My Life.” Test on Thursday, Feb. 17th.
Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #5 returned to students on Monday (2-14) represents five weeks of daily work. Please sign and return 2-15.
Students are completing Chap. 7 this week and will be tested on Tues. 2-15. In beginning Unit 4, students will first study ancient China to understand how its geography had isolated China and divided its people.
Religion-Students are studying the Commandments as expression of God's love for his people and understanding that they help us express love in practical ways.
Science- Students will wrap up about volcanoes this week. They have a review on Monday, with the tests being on Tuesday and Wednesday. The study guide is due on Tuesday.
Math- This week students will start Unit 7. This unit focuses on Geometry of plane figures. Students will be learning about plane figures, measuring angles, pairs of angles and circles.
PE - This week we continue our unit on Gymnastics.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Scholastic February Book Orders due Wed., Feb. 23rd.
In Literature, two poems will be studied to understand and appreciate lyric poems about human possibilities. The reading selection is a drama, “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.” Students will read the selection to understand and appreciate a teleplay about how ordinary people react to fear of the unknown. A variety of resource activities will be completed.
The Spelling/Vocabulary list is based on “The Monsters” and the test will be on Thurs., Feb. 17th.

Students continue in Chap. 8, China, to understand how developments in transportation, agriculture, and trade led to the rise of a money economy in China.
Religion-Working on essay about the Communion of Saints.
Science- Students will be wrapping up Chapter 11, the introduction of plants. They will be learning about the functions of the root, stem, flower and leaves of plants. There will be a written test on Wednesday and Lab test on Thursday.
Math- This week students will be continuing to work on Unit 7, Geometry. The focus of this week will be on identifying parts and properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, congruent polygons, and circles. They will also be using central angles to make and interpret circle graphs.
PE - This week we will continue our unit on Gymnastics.

8th Grade

In Literature, students begin Part 2 of Unit 3 with its theme of “Going to Extremes.” The selection “The Banana Tree” will be read to understand and appreciate a short story about a boy's response to a hurricane. Appropriate resource activities will be completed.
The Spelling Vocabulary list this week is based on the above selection. Test on Thurs., Feb. 17th.

Students continue in Chap. 6 to understand how Jackson used his power as President to make widespread changes and to distinguish between the negative and positive aspects of American democracy observed by the Europeans.
Religion- Working on essay about the Communion of Saints.
Science- This week students will start working on Chapter 11, Introduction to Electricity. Students will be focusing on electric charges. They will be learning the law of electric charges, ways objects can become charged, compares conductors and insulators and electric discharge.
Math- Students will continue to work on Chapter 7. Because this has been a difficult chapter for most students we will use Tuesday and Wednesday for review. The test over the chapter will be on Thursday.
PE - This week we will continue our unit on Gymnastics.
Health - Last week we discussed different strategies advertisers use to sell products to teens. We focused on Alcohol ads. Students are to watch and fill out a worksheet about two different ads that will be discussed on Wednesday. At least one of the ads should be alcohol related. This week students will begin learning how alcohol and drugs affect them physically, mentally and emotionally.

General Notes:
There was a misprint on the Science Fair Packet. The final check for Science Fair Logbook will be next Wednesday, February 23rd.
Please remember that school will be released at 11:30 on Thursday and there will be no school on Friday or Monday. Please have a safe and restful weekend.
