Language Arts-In literature, students will read “The Circuit” pgs. 264-271. The thematic link of this unit is demonstrated in this section through the main character struggling with frequent moves, but the love of his family is constant. With the story “Woodsong”, students will have read and completed the activities for this novel by Wednesday, Jan. 12th. Spell. / Vocab list this week will be taken from the literature selection, “ The Circuit” and Social Studies Chap. 6. The Individualized Reading Contract of 12-16-04 will be returned this week. Scholastic Book Orders are due Wed. Jan 12th.

Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #4 taken on Monday, Jan. 10th. The Mini- Report for Chap. 6 is now due Thursday, Jan. 13th. Students will be completing Chap. 6 this week and will take a test on Thurs. Jan. 13th or Fri. Jan. 14th.

Religion-Students are completing Chap. 8 with its emphasis on Joseph prefiguring Jesus and will take a quiz on Tues. Jan. 11th. Chap. 9 is a review of Unit 2 “God Forms a Family of Faith”. The test for Unit 2 is on Thurs. Jan. 13th.

Science- This week students will finish work on Chapter 6, Plate Tectonics. Students will be learning about Wagner's Theory, what happens in the sea's floor, the theory of plate tectonics, and the deformation of Earth's crust. There will be a written test on Thursday and a lab test on Friday.

Math- Students will continue to work on measurement. The focus of this week will be on customary units of length, capacity and weight, and temperature. There will be a review of Unit 5 on Tuesday, January 18th, and the test on the 19th.

PE - Students will continue to work on their Volleyball unit the week.

7th Grade

Language Arts-In literature, students are beginning a new unit (Unit 3, Part 1 Theme: Showing Courage) and the first selection is “The Chief's Daughter” by Rosemary Sutcliff. Two objectives to be covered; the student will understand and appreciate a story about two courageous young people in prehistoric times and understand how to make inferences while reading. Students are completing the “Writing A Narrative” (p. 246-253) project from last week. The final draft is due Fri. Jan. 14th. Spell/ Vocab list this week will be taken from the literature selection, “The Chief's Daughter”. The Individualized Reading Contract of 12-16-04 will be returned this week. It was a month long project wherein students worked on three different projects (with their own rubric) within its genre. Scholastic Book Orders are due Wed. Jan 12th.

Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #4 taken on Monday, Jan. 10th. In Chap. 6, students are completing Les. 3 and 4 and will be concentrating on the objectives to access the effect of gold mining on the economy and politics of Zimbabwe and access the impact of the Portuguese on the Kongo economy. Students will review Chap. 6 and complete the test for Chap. 6 on Fri. Jan. 14th.

Religion-Students will discuss the need for public worship. They will receive the Study Guide for Chapter 8 on Tuesday in preparation for the test on Thursday.

Science- Students will finish working on Chapter 8. Students will be learning about how evolution happens and natural selection. The Chapter 8 packet will be due on Friday. There will also be a lab test over the chapter on Friday.

Math- Students will finish Chapter 5 this week. There will be a review on Wednesday and a test on Thursday. They will then begin Chapter 6, Data, Statistics and Probability on Friday.

PE - Students will continue to work on their Volleyball unit the week.

8th Grade

Language Arts- In literature, students are reading the selection “The Bet” by Anton Chekhov. The objectives to be met are: to understand and appreciate a short story about the nature of long-term imprisonment and to enrich reading by using active reading strategies in the categories of cause and effect and identify and analyze the use of flashbacks. Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #4 taken on Monday, Jan. 10th. Students are completing Chap. 4, “The Constitutional Convention”, Les. 3, “The Bill of Rights”. The main objectives of this lesson are to identify the Bill of Rights and its relevance to everyday life and be able to describe the process by which the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution. Students will be tested on Chap. 4 on Thurs. Jan. 13th.

Social Studies- Daily Geography Quiz #4 taken on Monday, Jan. 10th. Students are completing Chap. 4, “The Constitutional Convention”, Les. 3, “The Bill of Rights”. The main objectives of this lesson are to identify the Bill of Rights and its relevance to everyday life and be able to describe the process by which the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution. Students will be tested on Chap. 4 on Thurs. Jan. 13th.

Science- Students will finish working on Chapter 8. Students will be learning about what a machine is and different types of machines. The Chapter 8 packet will be due on Friday. There will also be a lab test over the chapter on Friday.

Math-Chapter 5 will be completed this week. There will be a review over the chapter on Tuesday and the test on Wednesday. Students will start Chapter 6, Solving Liner Inequalities. They will learn about how to solve liner inequalities using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

PE - Students will continue to work on their Volleyball unit the week.

Health - Students will be working on Disease prevention this week. The focus will be on the immune system, agents, antibodies, acute and chronic diseases.

In the Monday Envelope you will find the Science Fair Packet. Please let Ms. Gibbs know if you have any questions.

The end of the semester is on Friday, January 14th. Report cards will be sent out January 24th.

Please remember the school will be closed on Monday January 17th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
