Language Arts-there will be different types of assessment activities to determine what students know. These assessment activities will cover reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. These activities are just to determine where the students are right now so there is no need to study.

Social Studies- attention is going to be on Geography; identifying names of continents and their shapes by labeling and coloring as well as reading a glossary sheet which will be color-coded. This sheet will be used to complete the quiz on Thursday or Friday.

Religion-

Science- At the beginning of each year in Science, every student must complete a Science Lab Safety Test. Each student must pass with 100% accuracy in order to participate in science labs. I will focus on getting each student ready for the test.

Math- we will focus on diagnostic testing in order to determine where each student is and where we need to go from here. These are assessment activities only and the students do not need to worry about studying for the tests.

PE - we will be focusing on the 5 components of fitness. They will learn what they are, examples of each, and how they are important to lifetime physical activity. Students will be tested on these components the early part of next week.

General Notes:

Introducing the Middle School Teachers:

Mrs. Martin - 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades
Making the choice to teach at Saint Ann Middle School is to realize one's full potential as a Catholic educated teacher. That journey began in New Jersey (K-4), on to Arizona (5-8), then to California (St. Therese Little Flower Academy 9-12), completing my B.S. at University of Dayton in Ohio. I became a member of St. Ann Parish in 1972, when I first taught at St. Ann School.

More recently, I have just retired from S.S.U.S.D. where 11 of my 14 years were spent teaching at Murray Middle school. It is like coming home, being able to teach here at St. Ann Middle School. I look forward to spending this school year with the 6th, 7th, & 8th grades; guiding and supporting their efforts and successes in our Catholic School environment.

Ms. Gibbs - 6th, 7th, & 8th

I received both my Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science Degrees at the University of Wyoming. I currently hold a teaching credential and LPN license in the State of Wyoming and am actively striving to get these transferred to the State of California. As a substitute teacher, I have experience in teaching students at the elementary, middle school and high school levels in a variety of subject areas. I was also a member of the Wyoming Department of Education's Committee for the revision of State School Health Standards and Benchmarks and have provided assistance to schools across Wyoming in implementing those standards. My two sons and I have just moved to the area and are looking forward to teaching and going to Saint Ann School.

Volleyball Info

All Middle School girls should have received a mailing last week with volleyball information and permission slip. Please return your permission slip to Miss Rossi by tomorrow, Tuesday, August 24th. Thank you.
