Weekly Notes from the Principal's Desk. . .
May 3, 2004
- Father Bob and I are pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. June Martin for one of our vacancies in the middle school for the upcoming school year. Mrs. Martin, who taught at Saint Ann School previously, currently teaches core classes at Murray Middle School. She and her husband Duke Martin are Saint Ann parishioners. In addition, we are excited to announce that Mrs. Deb Veit, a parishioner of Our Lady of the Desert Parish on base, has accepted an offer to teach music for the 2004-2005 school year. Mrs. Veit has a Masters Degree in Music Education and has been teaching private music lessons for many years. We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Veit and Mrs. Martin to our Saint Ann School family.
- Sometime in the next day or so expect a call from your room parent regarding the upcoming Luau/Casino Night. They will be calling to ask for your help in staffing this important fundraiser. Thank you very much for your dedication and support for our fundraising efforts. If we work together to make this event a success that will be held each year, we might be able to reduce the number of small fundraisers throughout the year. We hope you are continuing to sell your tickets which you received in the Monday Envelope two weeks ago. See the reverse of this letter for the breakdown of available shifts and times.
- The Parent Participation Hours Log Book will be taken away tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4. All hours worked up through May 1 need to be entered by 2:05 PM tomorrow. Hours worked May 2 and after will count towards the 2004 - 2005 School Year (except for Luau/Casino Night hours as explained in last week's Principal Letter).
- Be sure to join us for the Ice Cream Social this Thursday, May 6. This is an opportunity to visit with other parents, students, and staff members, and to celebrate the winding down of a successful school year. The 4th graders and SASSY will provide some entertainment, and we will have a short election of PTG officers for next year.
- If you are interested in holding an office in the Parent/Teacher Guild or would like to nominate someone, please contact the office by Thursday morning. We will hold elections for any office for which we have more than one nomination. Officers of PTG or the Advisory Council who regularly attend their monthly meetings will completely fulfill their obligation for parent participation hours.
- During the Ice Cream Social, we will also hold the traditional drawing for a month's free tuition for next year. Any parent participation hours worked over 50 hours entitles you to be entered into this drawing. The more hours you have worked beyond 50 hours, the more chances you have to win.
- Used uniforms will be available for trade or sale at the Ice Cream Social.
- On Saturday, May 1, our second grade students received their First Holy Communion. We congratulate them on this sacred accomplishment. We thank Mrs. Huntoon, Mrs. Coleen Salinas, Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Miller, and all other helpers for making this day so special. We also thank SASSY (our Saint Ann musicians) led by Mrs. Stenger-Smith who provided the beautiful music. The lovely reception afterward was hosted by the first grade parents.
- At 8:10 AM on Friday, May 7, we will hold our annual May Crowning. This begins with a beautiful procession of all of our students (including our second grade class wearing their First Communion clothes) from the grotto into the church. The Pilgrim Virgin statue is then crowned, and we continue with morning Mass. Please join us for this meaningful Catholic tradition.
- During the month of May we pay tribute to our Blessed Mother Mary. We invite you to recite one decade of the rosary with us each Wednesday at 7:30 AM at the grotto.
- The Scholastic Book Fair will begin on Wednesday, May 5, at 7:15 AM in the school library. It will continue through Monday, May 10, at noon. Your child(ren) will visit the Book Fair sometime this week. We would like to thank you in advance for any purchases that you make from the Book Fair. We earn “money points” based on your purchases, and in turn buy new books for the library. We also want to thank Mrs. Eli Brooks and her helpers for all that they do to make this a special event for the students!
- Congratulations to our 5th/4th grade basketball teams for a very successful regular season. Last week the boys won their exciting game against Faller. The girls won the first place tie-breaker game against Gateway in a dramatic, come-from-behind win. This completes the regular season and gives students a short break before the upcoming Saint Ann Knights of Columbus Tournament to be held May 13-15.
- Saint Ann students, along with World Youth Day participants, were able to contribute $2,000.00 to aid Fr. Fath in his missionary work in Colombia. We commend their generosity. As Fr. Fath points out, though, he values their prayers as much as their monetary support.
- Reminder: Chess Club will meet on Friday, May 7 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Please let us know if your child will not attend.
- Reminder: Tuition is due by next Monday, May 10.
