Weekly Notes from the Principal's Desk. . .
March 22, 2004
- This week school will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, Monday through Friday, for Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you are unable to make your conference time, please call the school office no later than 11:30 AM on the day of your scheduled conference.
- There are no basketball games this week. The gym floors at Kerr McGee are being re-done.
- Please join us this Friday, March 27, for school Mass at 8:15 AM and for the Stations of the Cross at 11:00 AM.
- Fish Fry Friday! Please join fellow parishioners and guests in this Lenten tradition at Saint Ann. Dinner is served from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. Large dinner: $5.50 Small dinner: $4.50. You will also be supporting the students attending the school and the students working to attend World Youth Day 2005. Bake sale proceeds will be given to Fr. Fath to support him in his missionary work.
- Today you will find in the Monday Envelope the Masterpiece fundraiser packet providing information about this excellent fundraiser. We appreciate your efforts to sell these items to friends, family, and co-workers. We remind families that for safety reasons we do not want the students selling these products door-to-door.
- Next week the High Desert Child Abuse Prevention Council (HDCAPC) will be presenting the Children's Self Help Project to K - 3rd Grade classrooms. The enclosed letter gives information regarding the program. If you have further questions, please call the HDCAPC; their employees will be happy to answer your questions. We ask that you return the enclosed permission slip if you DO NOT wish your child to participate in the program. We have tried to accommodate the parents who do not wish their children to participate by scheduling the presentations at the beginning and ending of the day and right before or after lunch.
- If you had the opportunity to watch the Middle School presentation of Macbeth, I know you'll join me in congratulating the students on an exceptional performance. The students, under the direction of Mrs. Champeny, worked very hard, and this was clearly evident in the entertaining and polished performances of the cast and the well-coordinated support crew. Well done, and we look forward to future presentations!
- Mrs. Miller, the Elementary Religious Education Coordinator, is seeking volunteers for the parish Vacation Bible School. The dates have been set for June 14-18. This is an opportunity to earn parent hours for next year.
- The April PTG meeting will be April 1 at 7:00 PM in the library. The meeting was rescheduled from its regular time because of Easter break. I encourage all of you to attend to discuss with us a possible new fundraising opportunity-a Saint Ann School Casino Night! This could be a fun (and hopefully profitable) evening in support of the school
- This week, March 22-28, is National Prayer Week. The theme this year is “Jesus is With Us. Tell the World!” Your prayers are urgently needed for missionaries as they spread the Gospel message to the “ends of the earth.” On the back of this newsletter I have included a prayer I encourage you to say each day with your family. As our Holy Father Pope John Paul II emphasizes, “Prayer should accompany the journey of missionaries so that the proclamation of the word will be effective through God's grace.”
- As you learned from Fr. Bob's letter last week, I have been asked to be full-time principal next year. Although this is a daunting prospect at times, I'm looking forward to working with all of you to continue to build our program and provide quality education for the children of our parish and our community. I appreciate very much the support I have had from the parents, students, and staff this year. I will work diligently to promote our school, and I welcome your suggestions on ways we can showcase what a wonderful community Saint Ann School is.
