Weekly Notes from the Principal's Desk. . .
February 23, 2004
- I hope you had a wonderful three-day weekend. The Parish-school community of religious educators enjoyed the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. We are grateful to the parish for making this annual opportunity available to us.
- Science Fair is here! Projects have been set up in the Parish Center. Please join us for viewing of the projects tomorrow evening, Tuesday, February 24, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Awards will be presented at 7:00 PM. All students in fourth through eighth grade have been working on projects. Kindergarten through third grade, with Mrs. Black's help, have done a project as a class. Families and friends are welcome to view projects and stay for the awards ceremony.
- Wednesday, February 25, is Ash Wednesday. This is the day on which we begin the sacred season of Lent. Please join us for Mass at 8:15 AM. The teachers are preparing lessons and activities that will help your children to prepare for the commemoration of Christ's death and resurrection. Throughout Lent we focus on the themes of prayer, service and sacrifice, and we encourage prayers, almsgiving and fasting so that we might empty ourselves of selfishness in order to serve as Christ served. Please join us by keeping these themes alive in your home. We will be participating, with parish children enrolled in CCD, in the “Rice Bowl” program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services.
- Please join us this Friday and each Friday during Lent for an all-school Stations of the Cross at 1:30 PM (with the exception of Friday, March 12 and March 26 when Stations will begin at 11:00 AM) in the Church.
- Our Middle School Basketball teams are doing well! Game vs Monroe @ Monroe Gym today, Monday, February 23. Girls play at 3:30 PM and boys play at 4:30 PM.
- Fish Fry begins this week!! Join us for fish, chips, coleslaw, lemonade and coffee from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. Prices are: $5.50 for a large serving and $4.50 for a small serving.
- Chess Club will meet this Friday after school. If your child will not be attending this meeting, please let us know. Please pick up your child(ren) no later than 3:00 PM.
- Reminder: No bake sales and no ice cream sales during Lent.
