Weekly Notes from the Principal's Desk. . .

February 16, 2004

  • I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. I know that those extra days off helped me get caught up on many projects and allowed me to spend some time with my family.

  • Reminder: This Thursday, February 19, is a minimum day and school will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, and there is no school on Friday, February 20. The school and parish religious educators will be attending the L.A. Religious Education Congress.

  • The Science Fair is almost here! Projects must be set up in the Parish Center by noon on Monday, February 23. Please join us for viewing of the projects on Tuesday, February 24, from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM. Awards will be presented at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. (All students in Grades 4-7 have been working on projects. All other grades, with Mrs. Black's help, have done a project as a class. We are still looking for a few judges. Science Fair judging is another opportunity to earn a few parent participation hours. Of course parents will not be assigned as judges to their child's class. Call the office if you are interested in helping out.

  • Wednesday, February 25, is Ash Wednesday, the day on which we begin the sacred season of Lent. Please join us for Mass at 8:15 AM. The teachers are preparing lessons and activities that will help your children prepare for the commemoration of Christ's death and resurrection. Please join us by preparing your families at home. We will be participating, with parish children enrolled in CCD, in the “Rice Bowl” program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services. This is a good opportunity for you to teach your children about the value of almsgiving.

  • The Advisory Council Meeting was inadvertently left off the February calendar. They will meet on Monday, February 23, in the Parish Library at 7:00 PM. These meetings are open to everyone and we encourage you to attend.

  • Congratulations to our Middle School basketball teams! They have been keeping up a busy schedule of practices and games. Our thanks go to all who have helped-particularly our coaches James Jensen and Carlos Olson, and to Miss Rossi. Game vs Charter Tuesday at Cerro Coso gym; Girls @ 3:30 PM; Boys @ 4:30 PM. Game vs Immanuel on Thursday at Kerr-McGee gym; Girls @ 3:45 PM; No Boys game.

  • Plans are moving ahead for both creating a local network for our school and getting us more internet access. Thanks to the Technology Committee for their hours of dedication!

  • Knights of Columbus Council 3199 is hosting a free breakfast this Sunday, February 22. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 AM to 12 noon at the Knights Hall located on West Ridgecrest Blvd. All parish members are invited. Donations for vocations will be accepted and information about the Knights of Columbus programs will be available.

  • I want to remind you once again to please pull into a parking space when you are dropping off or picking up a child. It is a very small inconvenience to do so, but it is of great help in keeping our students safe.

  • As you read last week, Ms. Finneran has decided to not return as principal of Saint Ann School next year. We support her in her decision to stay home with her absolutely charming daughter Sophia and we will miss her leadership and vision for our school. I'm sure you join me in praying for God to continue to bless her and her family with his grace and protection.
