6th Grade
Language Arts-Students will learn to recognize action, linking and helping verbs and verb phrases. They will memorize the most common linking verbs (p. 88) for a quiz next Monday, May 24. They will learn the difference between a transitive and an intransitive verb.
Social Studies- Each student team (Roman, Greek and Egyptian) will prepare and perform in the Walk Through Ancient Time program this week. The Walk Through Program is at 8:00 am on May 18th. Parents can plan to attend the program in the Parish Hall. Thank you to Mrs. McKnight for volunteering to be the scorekeeper.
Religion-Students will learn about some heroes of the Old Testament and how their actions reflected their values. They will examine how we form our values today.
Science- Students will complete Section 3 and 4 of the directed reading worksheets on Chapter 16 Understanding Weather. Students will review for and take the Chapter 16 test on Thursday, May 20th.
Math- This week students will study the counting principle, and independent and dependent events when trying to calculate probability.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will finish the chapter on verbs by discussing troublesome verbs (the ones we all misuse). There will be a test on Chapter 5 on Wednesday.

Religion-Students will study Mary, the Mediatrix of Grace. During the month of May, we are gathering on Wednesday mornings in the Grotto to pray the Rosary in honor of Mary.
Science- Students will complete the activities for Chapter 21 Communication and Control. Next, we will prepare for a test on the chapter.
Math- This week students will use equations to help them solve word problems. They will study scientific notation, solve equations with rational numbers and solve two-step equations.
Spanish- Students will take their final quiz on the Mayan Arithmetic that they studied.

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students should have evaluated five websites by today. They will learn how to cite web sources as they complete their research on slave narratives. In grammar we will focus on adverbs and some common adjective/adverb problems. The test on Chapter 5 will be on Thursday.
Social Studies- Students are finishing Chapter 14, Reshaping the Great Plains. Students will be given an open book test on Thursday over Chapter 14.
Religion- Activity Books will be collected this Thursday. Students should have them completed and ready to turn in.
Science- Students will study Chapter 19 The Universe Beyond and study the life cycle of stars.
Math-This week students will begin Chapter 11, Radical Expressions and Triangles. They will learn to simplify and perform operations with radical expressions. They will solve radical equations, and they will use the Pythagorean Theorem and Distance Formula. All homework in Chapter 10 is due this Thursday.
Spanish- Students will take their final quiz on the Mayan Arithmetic that they studied.

General Notes:

Middle School Field Trip- The Middle School will go to the Norton Simon Museum this Friday, May 21st. Mrs. Black has organized a kite flying activity at a nearby park following the museum tour. Please fill out the field trip form in the Monday envelope and return to school. The museum has a nice gift shop and students may want to bring money for gifts. Students need to bring a solid snack and a good lunch. We will be leaving promptly at 7:30am. We will be returning to school around 6pm.
Planning Ahead:
The last week of school will be a great mix of activities. Here is our plan.
Tuesday from 11-2 we will have P.E. at the Pinney Pool.
Wednesday (Sports Day) we will walk to Leroy Jackson Park for a basketball tournament.
Thursday we will design, build and measure the time of flight of bottle rockets.
Friday is the last Children's Mass and the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
