6th Grade
Language Arts-Students are finishing their essays. They will analyze cause and effect and the author's use of foreshadowing as they read “Lob's Girl.” The class will have vocabulary work from this story with a test on Friday.
Social Studies- Each student team (Roman, Greek and Egyptian) will prepare for the Walk Through Ancient Time program this week. The Walk Through Program is at 8:00 am on May 18th . Parents can plan to attend the program in the Parish Hall. Thank you to Mrs. McKnight for volunteering to be the scorekeeper.
Religion-Students will learn about how God provided strong leaders for the Israelites as they settled in Canaan. They will learn what values these people held, and they will discuss their own values.
Science- Students will review and prepare for a test on Chapter 15 The Atmosphere. We will move on to Chapter 16 Understanding Weather.
Math- This week students will learn to select samples, evaluate conclusions, use a table to help them solve word problems, probability, and the counting principle.

7th Grade
Language Arts-After reviewing the four principal parts of verbs, students will learn how to form the simple, present, past, future (progressive) and perfect tenses. They will take a test on “from Exploring the Titanic” on Wednesday.
Social Studies- Students will study terrace farming and the vertical economy of the Inca Empire. Then students will discuss the arrival of the Spanish.
Religion-Students will describe Jesus great love for the sick and the suffering and identify the scriptural roots of the Anointing of the Sick.
Science- Students will review and prepare for a test on Chapter 20 Circulation and Respiration. Next we will move on to Chapter 21 Communication and Control.
Math- Students are finishing their unit on Integers and Rational Numbers this week. This week they will begin Unit 9. Algebra: Expressions and Equations. All homework in Unit 8 is due this Friday.
Spanish- Students will learn about the Mayan numerical system.

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students will review adjectives and adverbs, including making comparison, avoiding double negatives and other common modifier problems. They will continue with their study of evaluating websites as they read slave narratives on the Internet. Since we are not online on most computers here at school, much of this reading will need to be done at home. I will make arrangements for anyone who cannot get on-line at home to work on the library or computer lab computer during lunch or after school.
Social Studies- This week students are finishing their study on Reconstruction in the South following the end of the Civil War. They will proceed to study Ch 14, Reshaping the Great Plains.
Religion- Students will continue to work to complete their religion activity book.
Science- Students will review for a test on Chapter 18 A Family of Planets. We will move on to Chapter 19 The Universe Beyond and study the life cycle of stars.
Math-This week students will graph exponential functions solve problems involving exponential growth and exponential decay, and they will recognize and extend geometric sequences. Ch 10 take home test is due this Friday.
Spanish- Students will learn about the Mayan numerical system.

General Notes:
Room parents will call this week to schedule people for shifts for our last fundraiser the Casino Night. Please plan on attending.
Middle School Field Trip- The Middle School will go to the Norton Simon Museum on Friday, May 21st. Mrs. Black has organized a kite flying activity at a nearby park following the museum tour.
