6th Grade
Language Arts-Students will continue working on their essays. In grammar, they will discuss more pronoun problems, and they will take a test on pronouns (Ch. 3) on Thursday. In literature, they will read Greek myths. New outside reading books will be assigned.
Social Studies- Each student team (Roman, Greek and Egyptian) will prepare for the Walk Through Ancient Time program this week. The Walk Through Program is on May 18th. Parents can plan to attend the program in the Parish Hall.
Religion-We will learn about the Israelites arrival in the Promised Land after forty years of wandering in the desert.
Science- Each student has a new science text book series for the Weather Unit. Students will study Chapter 16, Understanding Weather by defining the water cycle, relative humidity, explaining the dew point and it relation to condensation and by describing the three major cloud formations.
Math- Students are finishing their unit on Using Formulas in Geometry. They will also begin work on Data, Statistics, and Probability. All homework in Unit 8 is due this Friday.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students have completed their essays on a literary analysis of the poem The Highwayman. They will focus on separating fact from opinion as they read “from Exploring the Titanic.” There will be regular vocabulary work this week.
Social Studies- Students will prepare for the Cinco de Mayo celebration, which will take place during lunchtime and Spanish class on Tuesday. Students will also describe the agriculture, society, religion, location of and geography of the Inca and Aztec empires.
Religion-Students will see through Scripture God's revelation of himself as a merciful God. Students will distinguish between hatred for the sin and love for the sinner, understand the meaning of “change of heart”, and explain the two kinds of sorrow: contrition and attrition.
Science- Students will study the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system and respiratory system.
Math- Students will learn to add and subtract rational numbers, multiply and divide rational numbers, and they will use graphs to help them solve word problems.
Spanish- Students are going to celebrate the Mexican Victory at the Battle of Puebla against the French Army this Tuesday.

8th Grade
Language Arts-After rewriting a scene from a minor character's point of view, students will begin doing research on slave narratives on the Internet. Students will have a test on verbs (Ch 4) on Wednesday.
Social Studies- This week students will learn how conflicts over Reconstruction policy led to a resolution of impeachment. They should also be able to consider the significance of the black vote in the South during the Reconstruction. They should be able to examine how white Southerners resisted granting black Americans equality.
Religion- Students will work on the remaining activities in the their religion book.
Science- Students will study astronomical unit (AU), terrestrial planets, prograde and retrograde rotation, and planets called gas giants.
Math-This week students will solve quadratic equations by graphing, by completing the square, and by using the quadratic formula. They will also graph exponential functions. All homework in Chapter 9 is due this Wednesday.
Spanish- Students are going to celebrate the Mexican Victory at the Battle of Puebla against the French Army this Tuesday.

The Burroughs Registration Packets you received several days ago are due back this Wednesday. Please return them to the school office. A representative from Burroughs H.S. will be here Monday 5/10 to register the students. Thank You!
All Middle School Parents
Cuatro de Mayo How is the 4th of May important to Mexico? It is not. However, it is the day the Spanish class meets and the 7th and 8th graders will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on that day. Spanish students need to bring a Mexican food dish to school on Tuesday that will feed 8 people. We will celebrate with hand made maracas, Mexican music and more during lunch and Spanish class on Tuesday, May 4th.
