6th Grade
Language Arts-Students have created original poetry illustrated in watercolors. They will choose a poem to memorize and present to the class when they get back from spring break. In grammar they will be learning about pronouns.
Social Studies- Students will take the unit test on Greece. Next, we will study Classical Greece.
Religion-Students will learn how God forgives us just as he forgave the Israelites in the desert. They will name ways we can be reconciled and understand the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Science- Students complete the study of cycles in nature (Test on Tuesday Chapter 2). The next unit is on Exploring Earth's Biomes. Students will study the features of the Tundra Biome, Forest Biome, and Grassland Biome this week.
Math- Students are reviewing for their Unit 7 test this week on Geometry of Plane Figures. They will also begin Unit 8, Using Formulas in Geometry. Homework for Unit 7 is due Thursday 4/8.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will continue learning about poetry. They have chosen a poem to memorize and present as a choral reading. They will also create a written analysis of this poem. In grammar they will begin an in-depth study of verbs-their principal parts and tenses.
Social Studies- Students have wrapped up the unit on the Renaissance and are now in Meso-America. Students will define elite and hieroglyph. Then students will evaluate the role of environment in Olmec civilization and compare the contributions of the Olmec social classes. Students will summarize the main features of Olmec religion.
Religion-The students will study Chapter 9 The Priesthood of Jesus to analyze how Christ is the perfect priest and victim on the altar of the Cross on Calvary. Students will also study Chapter 10 Christ, Source of All Grace to identify Christ as the source of all grace because of his life, death, and Resurrection.
Science- Students will begin study of Chapter 19 Body Organization and Structure. Students will describe four types of tissue and the levels of organization of the body. Students will also study the skeletal system and muscular system.
Math- Students are reviewing for their Unit 7 test this week on Geometry. They will also begin Unit 8, Integers and Rational Numbers. Homework for Unit 7 is due Thursday 4/8
Spanish- Students will be quizzed orally on the Apostles Creed (in Spanish). Quiz on Tuesday 4/6.

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students will finish writing the final drafts of their essays (due at the end of spring break). They will study the principal parts of verbs. They will practice making inferences as they read Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes.
Social Studies- Students are finishing Chapter 11 this week and beginning Chapter 12, A Nation Divided.
Religion- 8th graders will help prepare the Seder Meal this week. They will also help serve the meal to the entire school on Thursday.
Science-- Students will apply Kepler's Laws and Newton's Laws to calculate the height, orbit and location of a satellite. Students will describe the basic structure and composition of the sun and explain how the sun produces energy.
Math-Students are reviewing for their Chapter 8 Test this week. They will also begin Chapter 9, Factoring. Homework for Chapter 8 is due Thursday 4/8.
Spanish- Students will be quizzed orally on the Apostles Creed (in Spanish). Quiz on Tuesday 4/6.

Looking Ahead:
Middle School is planning a field trip to the Petroglyphs on Friday, April 23. We will be in need of Drivers. Check your calendars and indicate whether you can drive on the enclosed permission slip and information sheet. There are forms to be filled out if you can drive. Please return those by this Thursday, April 8. Also, a docent is coming to school on Wednesday, April 21 from 1-2pm to give the children a presentation and all parents are invited to attend.
