6th Grade
Language Arts-Students are continuing to practice the play Macbeth. A final date for the presentation will be announced soon. Students will have regular vocabulary work this week with the words coming from their religion text.
Social Studies- Students will wrap up our study of China. Students will prepare for the Unit Test with a review. Also, we will have a special luncheon at the Golden Dragon on Thursday to award the Hsing with the most Civil Service points.
Science- Students will study food and energy in the environment. Students will distinguish differences among producers, consumers, decomposers, herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore. Students will describe food chains and food webs and relate feeding levels and energy.
Math- Students will begin Unit 7 this week on Geometry of Plane Figures. They will learn about plane figures, they will measure angles, find pairs of angles, and learn about circles and central angles. Students will need a protractor and a compass for this unit. Unit 6 homework is due Tuesday 2/24.
Religion-Students will study the power of God's name and how we can honor it. They will also learn about the Church's liturgical year.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will continue to study pronouns, focusing on possessive, reflexive, intensive, interrogative, and demonstrative pronouns. They will be quizzed each day on their memorization of these words.
Social Studies- Students will begin the study of Europe at the end of the Middle Ages.
Science-Students will begin study on Chapter 15 Fishes, Amphibian and Reptiles. Students will list the characteristics of chordates and vertebrates. Students will explain the difference between an ectotherm and endotherm.
Math-Students are finishing Unit 6 this week. They will begin Unit 7 on Geometry. Students will need a protractor and a compass for Unit 7. Unit 6 homework is due Friday 2/27.
Religion- Students will prepare for the season of Lent with prayer, activities and study of Christ's walk to Calvary. Students will attend mass on Ash Wednesday, participate in an Ash Wednesday retreat, and decide which sacrifice or activity they will work on during Lent. Students will attend Stations of the Cross each Friday.
Spanish- Students will be learning the prayers of the Rosary (the Glory Be and the Sign of the Cross). There will be no quiz this week on the verbs.

8th Grade

They will be quizzed each day on their memorization of these words. They will learn about pronoun-antecedent agreement. Students should finish reading Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea this week.
Social Studies- Students will take their test today on the West. They will continue by learning about the North. They will see the impact that the industrial revolution had on the nation. They will learn about the growth in population of the northern cities, and social reform movements of the time
Science- Students will study Forces in Motion. Students will complete the chain reactions for the Science Fair Tuesday night.
Math- Students will use elimination (addition, subtraction and multiplication) to solve systems of equations. They will also graph systems of inequalities.
Religion-This week we are celebrating the beginning of Lent.
Spanish- Students will be learning the prayers of the Rosary (the Glory Be and the Sign of the Cross). There will be no quiz this week on the verbs.

General Notes:
Fish Fry
This week is the first Parish Fish Fry for this Lenten season. As mentioned last week, this is THE ONLY LARGE MIDDLE SCHOOL FUNDRAISER. Please sign up in the school office for your preferred shift assignment. We would expect each family to work at least one of the two dates for which Middle School is responsible.
The Science Fair is Tuesday night. Please join us in viewing all the projects from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. The winners will be announced at 7:00 PM.
