6th Grade
Language Arts-Students will be learning their parts and practicing for their performance of Macbeth. They should have finished reading their Gary Paulsen novel. They will write an essay comparing/contrasting two of his works.
Social Studies- Students will begin Li 4, which is the study of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
Science- Students will study soil horizons and soil profile. Students will learn in horizons A, B and C where to find topsoil, subsoil, leaching, weathered rock and parent rock
Math- Students will learn to find the percent, to find the number when a percent is known, to draw a graph to help solve work problems, and estimating with percents.
Religion-We will begin Lesson 12 on living the commandments today. Students will memorize the Ten Commandments and take a quiz on them on Thursday.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will begin working on a Power Point presentation based on their outside reading novel.
Social Studies- Students will study daily life in Feudal Europe.
Science-Students will continue the study of invertebrates and vertebrates.
Math-Students will solve word problems by making a list, they will learn permutations and combinations, and calculate the probability of independent and dependent events.
Religion- Students will review the doctrine on original sin. Students will read the Visions Magazine for February 15th. Students will complete the activities in the magazine.
Spanish- No class this week because students will use class time to practice their part in the Macbeth play. Quiz next Tuesday 2/17

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students should continue to read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. They will begin learning about pronouns (which should help with those Spanish words they're memorizing).
Social Studies- This week students will learn how the war with Mexico helped the U.S. achieve its Manifest Destiny. They should be able to describe how Texas gained independence and how Oregon became part of the U.S.
Science- Students will complete 3 labs on Forces in Motion. Monday, Built for Speed pg 536. Tuesday, Detecting Acceleration 537. Wednesday, Science Friction pg. 540. Thursday will be the Chapter Test.
Math- Students are beginning Chapter 7, Solving Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities. In this chapter, they will learn to solve linear equations both by graphing and algebraically. They will also solve systems of linear inequalities by graphing.
Religion-This week students will be learning about the saints in the first thousand years as well as the second thousand years of the Church. They should be able to show how saints responded to the specific problems in the Church.
Spanish- No class this week because students will use class time to practice their part in the Macbeth play. Quiz next Tuesday 2/17.

Middle School Basketball Games
Please note on your gold practice/game schedule that we are the “Home Team” for this Wednesday's game against Murray. Being home team means that we need to provide:

Clean-up after last game (putting bleachers away;sweeping)
If you would like to be a timekeeper/scorekeeper, please let Ms. Rossi know by tomorrow (Tuesday). Hopefully, everyone can quickly help with the clean-up after boys' game. Thank You!
Expanding Your Horizons Conference
All Middle School girls are invited to attend the “Expanding Your Horizons” conference on the base on Saturday, March 6th. This conference introduces students to math, science, and technology for traditional and non-traditional careers. Enclosed you will find the brochure and registration form. Please return the registration form by Wednesday, February 18th (since we have no school on their February 20th deadline date).
Fish Fry is Coming
Our first Fish Fry is Feb. 27. Middle School will be doing this first one and one other Fish Fry. This is a great way to earn Parent Participation Hours and is a lot of fun. The sign-up book will be available in the office on Tuesday, Feb. 17th. There are a variety of jobs to do: setup, serving, baking goodies, and clean-up. The money earned will go towards our spring field trip, which is still being planned. More to follow…

If any parents have the following items that the middle school could borrow for their Macbeth play it would be nice if you would send them with your child to use.
- 2 bowls (empty)
- 2 spoons
- 1 big stuffed chair
- 2 smaller chairs
- 1 small table
- 1 plug in lamp
- 2 play shields
- 2 play swords (any size)
- 2 plastic helmets
- 1 four foot long play sword/dagger
- 2 pieces of cardboard 20 ft long 6-7 feet tall or any pieces that may be smaller such as scraps
- 1 plastic play caldron
- 1 play saw
- 3 microphone stands and microphones
- 1 20ft piece of PVC pipe
- any type of play food
Any thing Scottish: kilts, sweaters, long socks, etc.
