6th Grade
Language Arts-Students will study subject complements in grammar. They will have a test on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry on Thursday.
Social Studies- Students will focus on creating a writing system similar to the writing system developed by the Sumerians. Students will wrap up the study of Mesopotamia and move on to Egypt.
Science- Students will discuss focus, epicenter, Primary wave arrival point and materials it travels through, Secondary waves arrival point, speed, rock movement and materials it travels through, surface wave speed. Students will explain how a seismograph works, discuss the work of seismologists, the Richter scale, and predicting earthquakes.
Math- Students will take their test on Unit 3, Number Theory and Fraction Concepts. They will also begin Unit 4 on Fractions. All homework for Unit 3 must be turned in by Friday.
Religion-After students take a quiz on Lesson 6, they will learn the story of Jacob and the passing on of the covenant.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will complete the work on Dragonwings and begin preparing for the test on the novel.
Social Studies- Students will identify the major land regions in West Africa and explain the significance of the mighty empires of West Africa.
Science-Students will wrap up Chapter 4 Cells: Basic Unit of Life. Next, we will study cells in action.
Math-Students are finishing Unit 3 on Measurement this week. All homework for Unit 3 must be turned in by Tuesday 11/18.
Religion- The 7th grade is sponsoring the children's mass on Friday. Please come and join us.
Spanish- No class this week.

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students will continue working on their essays on their outside reading books. In grammar they will review singular, plural and possessive nouns.
Social Studies- Students are finishing Chapter 3, Toward the Constitution. Students will understand how the Articles of Confederation proved inefficient when Congress wished to enforce certain policies on the states. The lack of a strong central government created many problems for the new nation.
Science- Students will study how each element is identified by a chemical symbol, why elements in a group often have similar properties, and describe the properties of the elements in the group of the periodic table.
Math- Students are taking another test in Chapter 3. The better of the two test scores will be taken. They will also resume work in Chapter 4.
Religion-Students will study the Authority in the Church: Teaching and Governing. They will be able to identify the teaching authority of the Church, the doctrine of infallibility, and the need for obedience to Church authority.
Spanish- No class this week.
