6th Grade
Language Arts-Students should be finishing all their work on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. All work on this book, much of which has been done in class, is due on the day we come back from the Veterans' Day holiday, November 12. Any work received late will drop a letter grade for each day it is late. Students will read a new story, "Matthew Henson at the Top of the World." There will also be vocabulary work this week.
Social Studies- Students will study the Sumerian city-states, discover how each was ruled, describe how Sumerians served god, and introduce the Phoenicians.
Science- Students will study anticlines and synclines, determine the factors that will cause a rock to fault or fold, and research information on the Columbia Plateau in Oregon.
Math- Students are finishing Unit 3 this week. They will study terminating and repeating decimals, solve word problems using bar graphs, and finish a review in preparation for the test.
Religion-We are continuing our study of the covenant. Students will have a quiz on Lesson 6 on November 14. They will receive their study notes for Quiz 6 this week.

7th Grade
Language Arts-Students will give their oral presentations on New England or Robert Frost on Wednesday. We will read and examine two new poems this week. Students will have a poetry quiz on Friday.
Social Studies- Students will wrap up the unit on Islam by studying the expansion of Muslim rule through military conquests and treaties emphasizing the cultural blending within Muslim civilization and the spread and acceptance of Islam and the Arabic languages.
Science-Students will study the function of organells in a cell and discuss the difference between plant cells and animal cells. Ask students about the SCART lab!!
Math-Students will study customary units of area and volume, temperature and line graphs, time, and working word problems by making a table.
Religion- Students have completed the first section of the religion book. Students will be tested on Chapter 6 and will move on to the second section, God Becomes Man.
Spanish- No class this week.

8th Grade
Language Arts-Students will have a selection test on "A Splendid Outcast" on Wednesday.
Social Studies- Students will be able to describe the conflicts between the new national government and the 13 states. They will also be able to explain the significance of the Northwest Ordinance
Science- Students will begin Chapter 13 on the Periodic Table. Students will describe how the periodic table is arranged and compare the properties of elements.
Math- Students will begin Chapter 4 on Graphing Relations and Functions. They will study the coordinate plane relations, and equations as relations.
Religion-Students are learning about some of the Day of the Dead rituals celebrated by indigenous people in the state Oaxaca, Mexico.
Spanish- No class this week.
